FAQs
Principles of measuring app campaign performance
Performance measurement for typical advertising partners is done by applying tracking links at the time of ad landing.
Google Ads App Campaigns measure performance via a Server to Server method using Link ID instead of tracking links. In other words, Definery calculates and reports the contribution of Google Ads based on the response information provided by Google Ads and the attribution modeling set by the client. Therefore, the 'click' number cannot be confirmed in Google Ads App Campaigns.
The process of measuring advertising performance and optimizing events for Google Ads through Definer is as follows:
- After receiving a Link ID to connect Definery and Google Ads, register it in the Definery Console.
- When you register, Definery will send measured events (First open, In-app event) to Google Ads in real time.
- Google Ads responds to Definery for events that it determines are its own performance in the First open event sent by Definery.
- Definary is for the first open event Recalculate the response from Google Ads to determine performance based on your definition criteria.
- If the advertising performance of a Google Ads channel is determined based on the defining criteria, the data is reported in the console.
- Please refer to this guide for information on Definery's attribution methodology and lookback window.
Check if the settings are normal
Before running a Google Ads app campaign ad, please check the following:
_Whether Google Ads has completed issuing
Link ID
for the company-App-OS
_ Check whether the Package Name and App Store ID of the app are registered normally in the Attributions > Ad Landing Settings menu.
_ (iOS only) Whether
IDFA setting
is complete when linking with Definery
Check the status of 'No recent conversions'
You can check the conversion values passed to Google Ads in the conversion report or conversion status in the conversion menu.
The status of the transition can be identified by the status below.
-
No recent conversions
The conversion value has been verified, but there has been no conversion recorded as an ad within 7 days from the viewing date.
If you haven't run a campaign yet, or it's been more than 7 days since your campaign ended, it's normal for it to show as No Recent Conversions.
-
Recording conversion
If it is recorded as an advertisement within 7 days from the viewing date, it will be displayed as a conversion record. -
Not confirmed
The value for that conversion value has never been passed to AdWords.
This is not a confirmed status for conversions that occur through third-party app analytics (including Definer). Please ignore it.
Difference in number of executions/conversions
There may be differences in execution and conversion numbers between Definery and Google Ads app campaigns.
There is a difference between the 'New Install' value in Definery and the 'Conversion' value in AdWords due to the following reasons.
Whether to execute other campaigns
From the time of Link ID reflection, Definer sends all app execution data to Google Ads via server communication. Google Ads judges whether this data is inflow through Google Ads campaigns and responds to Definer. Definer judges New Install (new execution) based on Definer criteria and reports it among the responses.
If you are running other campaigns simultaneously through Definer, the performance contribution will be determined again by comparing the inflow point of other campaigns for new executions determined as conversions by Google Ads. Therefore, there is a possibility that executions counted based on Google Ads will be counted as performance of other campaigns.
Data definition differences
_
Conversions
provided by Google Ads include reinstalls (installs from users who have previously installed and run your app).
_ Definer provides the reinstallation figures separately as
Re-Install
items.
App execution count criteria
Google Ads records conversions based on the time of the click, while Definer records new launches based on the time the app is launched. If the click and launch dates are different, the numbers will vary from day to day because each platform has a different date for counting conversions and new launches.
- Click time : January 1st, 12:00
- App installation and launch time : January 2nd at 12:00
- Conversion based on Google Ads : January 1
- DFINERY standard conversion : January 2nd
